When she starts a sculpture, Mauricette Toussaint knows roughly, intuitively, what she intends to do.
Her work springs from an idea that she has been carrying for some time, like a pregnancy. As though it needed to mature before materializing.
She works without a model, her only guide is feeling. Most of all, it is a feeling that she needs to express. Sculpting is a long process and requires much patience.
Like Penelope, she keeps doing and un-doing until both eyes and heart are satisfied.
"Between the sculpture and I, there must be complete fusion, merging ". She will often be heard saying the sculpture comes through, is finished, when she falls in love with it.
